Y B It’s been a while since Starz has released a show I consider to be appointment viewing. This show has me looking forward to Sunday nights again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review Pieter-Jan H Wonderful portrayal, full of humour and intrigue. Definitely translated to present understanding, but therefore gives a genuine fictionalised experience. Brilliantly maid. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Ursula G Fast paced and gripping, really loved watching the mother-son dynamic between Mary and George portrayed by Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine, but the surprising performance highlight for me here is Tony Curran's portrayal of King James. The vulnerability cloaked in a false sense of bravado at points was truly astonishing and heartbreaking at the same time. Wished the media wasn't so hyper-focused on all of the sex scenes because that actually took a back seat when you watched the series, and focused instead on the power dynamics of the Jacobean era, as well as the undertones of the actual fondness, love and caring that developed between King James and George. Costumes and set design deserve a round of applause. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review jenny L binge watched this show it was absolutely brilliant nicholas galitzine nailed it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Ron G A tale of very toxic females and pederasty. Good for a laugh. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Julian D Immersed in the rich tapestry of history, the limited series "Mary & George" captivates with its vivid portrayal of an era teeming with scandal and intrigue. Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine deliver standout performances that infuse the screen with palpable energy, elevating the narrative to new heights. From the outset, the series plunges viewers into a world brimming with debauchery, where every twist and turn is steeped in salaciousness. While some may argue that it lacks depth in substance, the allure of its scandalous affairs and clandestine dealings more than compensates for any perceived shortcomings. At its core, "Mary & George" is not your typical period piece. It transcends the confines of conventionality to offer a sensational tale of sex and deception, masterfully woven by a nefarious mother-son duo. Their intricate web of manipulation and seduction keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating each revelation. Despite its focus on scandal, the series strikes a delicate balance, infusing moments of unexpected charm and wit amidst the decadence. The interplay of characters and the intricacies of their relationships add depth to the narrative, offering a captivating glimpse into the lengths individuals will go to secure power and influence. In essence, "Mary & George" is a captivating exploration of seduction and ambition, shedding light on the clandestine machinations of the Villiers and their ilk. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that this is not merely a tale of power, but a riveting journey into the seductive underbelly of society. Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe It drips with attitude, wit, and archness, which can sometimes work -- see “The Great” -- but fails to provide enough character and narrative to back it all up. It doesn’t build so much as tread water. Apr 9, 2024 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com Imbued with a historical kick, the new Starz limited series boasts juicy performances from Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine and a level of debauchery that makes Bridgerton look like a Sunday-school romp. Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com Mary & George strikes a desirable balance, delivering a little of the unexpected and uncouth in welcome spots, especially where the randy bits are concerned. Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Brian Bromberger Bay Area Reporter This thrilling British history raises carnal intrigue and scheming within a monarchy to new heights of audacity and salaciousness. Apr 10, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Cook Digital Spy The sex of Mary & George, much like the characters themselves, revolves around the pursuit of power, as opposed to sugary romance or sheer titillation. So perhaps think more Game of Thrones than Bridgerton when wading in. Rated: 4/5 Apr 10, 2024 Full Review Chris Revelle Pajiba Aside from all the great queer stuff, Mary & George has a wicked sense of humor and a sharp eye for absurdity. This keeps the proceedings punchy and entertaining instead of falling into stiffness or mustiness. Apr 9, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
