      Critics Consensus

Visually sumptuous and enriched with cultural verisimilitude, Shōgun is an epic adaptation that outdoes the original.

Joel L Amazing series so far. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Dwight Regin D I'm new to the concept of this movie, while I have not even read the book about it, it captures my curiosity about the traits and culture of ancient Japan. It kept me on the edge of my seat every episode released, its a new material for me (I'm more into war/adventure/sci-fi/fictional/action genre). Over all I have high regards and expectation about the rest of the season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Audience Member One of my favorite book series being masterfully reproduced in this flawless adaptation. I recommend it to everyone Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review suzanne k Wow oh wow… it is rare to stun me but Shogun has done it time and again. Everything about this show is amazing from the cinematography to the storyline, the costumes, the authenticity, the culture, the acting, it all blows me away. One more episode to go. This will be a classic for sure! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Y K Reminds of GOT first 3 seaons. Great acting! Best show I seen since better call Saul. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review Henrique F It started out bordering on perfection, but the further away it gets from the original material, the more it begins to deteriorate and appears unnecessarily stretched. Graeme Blundell The Australian It’s the most impressive opening, the detail in mise en scene and costume immaculate and the acting, able to seemingly grasp the mentality of feudal Japan with its values of patience, loyalty, and sacrifice. Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Louise Rugendyke Sydney Morning Herald Shogun is epic television as it should be. Wild plotting, complex characters and a real sense that you don’t quite know where it’s going, but you’re happy to stay for the ride. Mar 28, 2024 Full Review Camilla Long Times (UK) [Shōgun] is gripping: a sumptuous, startling, terrifically meaty rethink of the 1975 historical bestseller about John Blackthorne... Mar 11, 2024 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) For all the bloodshed, this is an intricate study of power, warcraft and betrayal. The deluge of subtitles make it feel yet more smoky, magical and mysterious. I didn’t expect much, but I’m finding it fascinating. Rated: 4/5 Apr 15, 2024 Full Review Ana Yorke PopMatters If you only have hours to spare on a weekly basis, invest them in Shōgun. The return will be generous. Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Jorge Rivera Rubio QiiBO A perfect fix for those missing Game of Thrones. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
